What’s in a name?

Selecting a name is a pivotal journey for any founder or business owner. Choosing a name for a company is often a reflective journey, and for us, it’s a tale woven with experiences in a new country and the intricacies of language.

Lost in translation

Relocating to a new country brings with it the amusing phenomenon of words taking on entirely different meanings. Each time our founder had to introduce herself, Danish locals couldn’t help but burst into laughter, as her family name, when translated from Danish, charmingly conveyed the amusing term “Chicken Leg”. While the amusement brought by the name was undeniable, practical considerations led our founder to explore alternatives for a company name.

The birth of CH•CK

Investigating various options and seeking input from the online community, friends, and family, a moment of inspiration struck. Something with Chick, as the joy and laughter it gave left a lasting impression. The subtle yet profound change of replacing the ‘I’ with a dot (•) led to the birth of CH•CK Consultancy, unleashing a world of possibilities.

The many faces of CH•CK

She proceeded to explore alternative interpretations for the name CH•CK and was satisfied with the insights she uncovered:

• CHaCK: embodies the act of tossing one’s head, much like a horse seeking liberation from the bridle. To our founder, it represents breaking free, starting this company and finding innovative solutions.
• CHeCK: is inspired by chess. As a little girl, our founder used to play chess with her dad. She learnt to have a game plan, think ahead, and adjust to the changes the game (or life) throws at you. 
• A CHoCK is a block of wood preventing the sliding of a heavy object, providing robust support. Much like our founder envisages our support to your company.
• And finally, a CHuCK; the connecting body in a drill that holds the bit securely in place. Still, to this day, a drill is our founder’s best friend. From simply hanging curtains to bigger projects such as a chicken coop, there is a satisfaction to building things yourself.

Aligning values and philosophy

As our founder established the values and philosophy of CH•CK Consultancy, these varieties seamlessly integrated into our identity. They became more than letters; they are the guiding principles shaping our approach to business and client partnerships now available in the “About us” section of our website.
